What Is the Beep Test?

The Beep Test, also known as the 20-meter shuttle run, is a proven way to measure aerobic fitness.

Athletes run back and forth between two cones, keeping pace with timed beeps that speed up over time.

The test ends when an athlete can’t reach the cone before the beep. The final stage and shuttle completed are used to estimate VO₂max — a key indicator of cardiovascular endurance.

Pulses supports both the standard 20-meter version and a 15-meter version for limited indoor spaces.

What is Beep Test Used For?

The Beep Test is a practical, repeatable way to assess:

  • Aerobic capacity (VO₂max)

  • Endurance progression over time

  • Readiness for return-to-play or season benchmarks

And with heart rate tracking in Pulses, you gain deeper insights like:

  • Max HR and recovery data

  • Effort validation at peak exertion

  • Instant VO₂max estimates — no charts needed

Any flat 15–20m space with Bluetooth signal

Try to run tests under the same conditions each time — same surface, environment, and time of day if possible. This ensures your results reflect real progress and not external factors.
