Live group heart rate monitoring
During a workout, Pulses displays each athlete as an individual tile showing information such as:
Current heart rate
Percentage of maximum heart rate
Personal heart rate zone
Calories
Average heart rate
Maximum heart rate
Workout time
Coaches can quickly see who is training at the intended intensity and who may need to increase or reduce their effort.
The live display can also be shown on a larger screen or TV, making it suitable for group sessions where participants should be able to follow their own intensity.
How Pulses works
Pulses does not require a proprietary heart rate system or a separate receiver hub.
The basic process is simple:
Add or select your athletes.
Connect compatible Bluetooth heart rate monitors.
Assign each monitor to an athlete.
Start the workout.
Follow everyone’s heart rate live.
Review the automatically saved results afterwards.
Each athlete can have individual heart rate zones based on maximum heart rate, heart rate reserve or manually configured values.
Who Uses Pulses App?
Gyms and fitness studios
Gyms can display live heart rates during:
Spinning classes
HIIT sessions
Circuit training
Functional fitness
Group cardio
Small-group personal training
The shared display helps members understand their effort and makes it easier for instructors to guide the whole group.
Sports teams and coaches
Coaches can monitor up to 20 athletes simultaneously during gym, court or field-based training.
Because every athlete can have individual heart rate zones, coaches can compare relative effort instead of relying on the same heart rate target for the entire team.
Schools and federations
Pulses includes tools for running standardised fitness tests with large groups.
Teachers and coaches can manage timing, scoring and results from one device, reducing manual administration during the test.
Functional fitness and HYROX training
Pulses can be used during workouts that combine running, strength exercises and conditioning stations.
Live heart rate data helps coaches and athletes evaluate pacing, recovery and how the body responds to different parts of the workout.
Fitness tests in Pulses
Pulses includes tools for group fitness testing.
Beep Test
Run 15-metre or 20-metre Beep Tests with automatic timing, levels and results.
You can test:
Up to 15 athletes with heart rate monitors
Up to 40 athletes without heart rate monitors
When heart rate monitors are used, Pulses can also record recovery heart rate after the test.
Yo-Yo Tests
Pulses supports:
Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test Level 1
Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test Level 2
Yo-Yo Intermittent Endurance Level 1
Yo-Yo Intermittent Endurance Level 2
Yo-Yo Endurance Test Level 1
Yo-Yo Endurance Test Level 2
The app manages the audio, timing and athlete results so the coach can focus on supervising the test.
Fitness Challenges
Pulses Challenges allow coaches to run repeatable workouts containing several exercises or stations.
Depending on whether heart-rate monitors are used, results can include:
Completion time
Exercise splits
Average heart rate
Maximum heart rate
Recovery heart rate
Comparison with previous attempts
Challenges can be used for benchmarking, retesting and creating friendly competition within a group.
Automatic results and athlete sharing
Pulses automatically saves workout, fitness test and Challenge results.
After a session, coaches can review information such as:
Workout duration
Average heart rate
Maximum heart rate
Calories
Time spent in each heart rate zone
Fitness test result
Recovery heart rate
Previous results and progress

Athletes can open their personal result page without creating an account. They can then easily share their workout, fitness test or Challenge result with friends and followers.
This gives athletes a simple way to celebrate their achievements and follow their progress.
For gyms, studios and teams, shared results can also create valuable organic visibility on social media. When members share their training achievements, they help show what happens inside the gym and encourage further engagement after the session.
Athlete sharing can help:
Motivate athletes
Highlight personal progress
Create engagement after training
Promote challenges and group activities
Increase visibility for the gym, studio or team
Coaches can also use the saved results to provide feedback and compare performance over time.
Compatible heart rate monitors
Pulses works with many heart rate monitors that transmit data using Bluetooth Low Energy.
Compatible device types include:
Chest straps
Optical arm bands
Some watches that can broadcast heart rate over Bluetooth
Examples include compatible models from:
Polar
Garmin
Wahoo
COOSPO
Suunto
Scosche
Chest straps normally provide the most reliable readings during high-intensity training. Optical arm bands can be a comfortable alternative for many group fitness sessions.
The heart rate monitor must be able to broadcast heart rate data using Bluetooth.
Devices that only support ANT+ are not compatible.
Pulses App for Android and Apple devices
Pulses can be used on Android phones and tablets, as well as iPhone, iPad and Mac.
A phone may be sufficient for a small group. For larger sessions, a tablet or computer provides more screen space for viewing multiple athletes.
The Pulses display can also be mirrored or connected to a TV when participants should be able to see their heart rate and training intensity during the session.
Pulses App and Athlete Analyzer
Pulses App works as an independent group heart rate monitoring and fitness testing app.
It can also be used together with Athlete Analyzer, a broader coaching platform for training planning, video analysis and long-term athlete development.
When the systems are connected, coaches can combine live session data from Pulses with other training and athlete information in Athlete Analyzer.
Both Pulses App and Athlete Analyzer are developed by the Swedish company Insudo Factory AB.
